This past Thursday we started our journey out to Kansas to visit with Brett's family. We were so excited to go out there as it had been a year and a half since our last visit. This was just my second visit to Haviland. Especially in my family, no one knows exactly what Kansas looks like, so I wanted to include a few pictures. Kansas is beautiful... but it's a type of beautiful that you don't see around here. Dirt roads, fields of bright green wheat, and perfect white clouds...

This is in Grandma Jan's yard. Note that Brett and Hannah (our niece) are running in the background.

Hannah is 22 months old, and boy has she grown since last time we saw her! She can speak well, sing, and loves to run around and lay in the grass... Brett is so good with her! We both enjoyed our time bonding with her and with the rest of the family!

This is probably my favorite pic... I love the wildflowers!

Grandma Jan and Hannah watering the flowers.

At Jan's request, Brett made his amazing key lime cheesecake that I spoke about a few blogs ago. It was the best yet! We had it as dessert for our "Memorial Day Cookout" which was on Saturday. Our Crisp grandparents came over from their farm to eat with us. Aunt Jeana and her family came too. Patrick grilled hotdogs and ribs and Jana made an amazing slaw and other sides....not to mention Aunt Jeana's wonderful potato salad! It was quite the feast!

We really enjoyed getting to spend so much time with Alvin and Loretta as well as with Jan and many others! Well, what would a trip to Kansas be with out a snake sacrifice? That's right, there was a huge snake at the neighbor's house and our team came to the rescue! This is a great action shot!

Sunday was Grandma Jan and her twin sister Jean's birthday. Before the family came, we gave Jan a little birthday gift. It was a yellow bird house, and she really liked it!

Jana made some amazing cupcakes, and she put them in the shape of the ribbon in honor of Jan beating her cancer. She's doing great with her treatments! We all felt special to be able to celebrate this with her!

Here's an action shot of Jan and Jean blowing out the candles!

We had a wonderful time with our family! It was a great weekend! On Monday, it was time to travel back home.... it felt like it came way too quickly! Here is a pic that I took from the car... Kansas is such an open place, you can see for miles! It really is beautiful!

Ok, so maybe I was a little "picture happy" but I've always loved clouds. Here are a few of my favorite pictures from the flight home.

To our family, thanks for making the trip to Kansas such a memorable and wonderful experience! We love you and miss you already!
