The Visitor - This is a movie about a college professor whose life become intertwined with strangers that change his perspective on life. We passed this movie on the shelf of the movie store numerous times. I'm so glad we picked it up! Watch the preview...I don't want to give away too much, but it involves a mid-life crisis, a subway (not the restaurant), and a djembe...
The Express - This is a drama (with some bits of comedy) that follows the first African American man that won the Heisman Trophy. This was recommended to us by some friends at church. It reminds me of Remember the Titans, but I like the angle that it takes in describing the racism of that time period. It brought a different perspective into light. It gave me a greater understanding of that time in our history and the way that it affected everyone... even athletes.
Slumdog Millionaire - This received the Academy Award for best picture of the year along with many other awards, and it deserved every one! Incredible music, story, costumes, and scenery!!! It focuses on a "slumdog" who is invited to play India's version of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" The film opens as the boy, Malik, is questioned by police demanding to know how he knows the answer to so many of the questions since he is only a "slumdog" and should not be smart enough to answer any of them. The police suspect that he is cheating... is he? The movie follows the many twists and turns of Malik's difficult life. Some moments are funny, some are intensely dramatic, and others are somewhat disturbing, but all are incredibly realistic. This was an eye opening movie for both of us. We highly recommend this film!
